Introduction to Revelation

Brief Intro:

  • The future is no mystery to God… 1/5 of the Bible, 20% is prophecy… 2nd coming of Christ is found 318 times in 210 N.T. chapters
  • Prophecy… unveiling of Jesus Christ. Giving details of the rapture, second coming, millennium, final judgment, heaven…
  • The Lord reveals His plan to conclude human history… worldwide judgment, persecution, salvation of multitudes…
  • Make an effort to learn and grow… Be reading… Be marking…  Be taking notes… Be investing… Be changed…
  • When plain sense of scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense… Locate the scene of activity. (heaven / earth)
  • Revelation IS NOT written chronologically – Narrative Interludes. (Ex, Rev  7 describing the sealing of the 144,000)
  • Very important to compare scripture with scripture. (O.T. prophetic books, Jesus’ teaching in the Gospels, N.T. books)
  • This subject is huge, complex and fascinating… yet often neglected because of its “mysterious” nature…
  • 80% of Pastors have never seriously studied Revelation.   John Calvin refused to write a commentary on it – too difficult.
  • Revelation begins and ends with special blessings for those who read & keep what is written. Rev 1.3, Rev 22.7
  • Revelation is the “book of the hour” – up to date with current events.  Events that are happening before our eyes!

Rev. 22:10 Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.”

  • Revelation exalts Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God and the great coming King of kings and Lord of lords…
